Online Building Permit System Officially Launches in Huntington

The Town of Huntington will officially launch a new system for applying for building permits on Tuesday.

The new system brings the whole process online using new software, OpenGov, that is designed to streamline the application process. Those seeking permits can file, review and gain approval of permits without having to go into Town Hall. Known as the permit portal, the system will allow applicants to track the progress of the entire process online.

The town said that employees of the Building Department will be available to answer questions and assist applicants throughout the process.

In May, the Town Board approved spending $660,742 to buy the OpenGov software on a three-year contract.

Councilman Sal Ferro pushed for the online system to speed up the process of getting building work underway.
