This year’s Over 50 Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Hilton Long Island/Huntington.
Reality TV contestants including Domenick Abbate from “Survivor: Ghost Island,” entertainers, beauty queens and speakers are expected at the 9th annual fair that celebrates life over age 50. The event is part health and wellness fair, part conference and part senior fair.
“The Over 50 Fair is an opportunity for adults age 50+ to find out about great opportunities here on Long Island. Our attendees will enjoy the free health screenings and consults, tech support, and much more,” said organizer Barbara Kaplan, who bills the annual event as the largest “over 50” expo on Long Island. This year’s fair has more than 80 exhibitors and 30 speakers. Kaplan also coordinates events at area malls under the business name Specialty Connections.
Abbate, runner-up on CBS TV’s “Survivor: Ghost Island” from earlier this year, will do a meet-and-greet and talk about his experience in Fiji and playing the game for 39 days. Laurie Russo of Laura Alison Design, a contestant on ABC TV’s “Steve Harvey’s Funderdome,” also will share her story of the week she spent in California promoting her infinity scarf.
In the Singles Lounge, sponsored by MTN Matchmaking, vocalist JayCeeDriesen will sing and Mitchell Robert will perform his musical comedy show.
Senior beauty queen winners from 2013 to 2018 from the Ms. New York Senior America pageant will be among the eight women who will pose for photos. The fair also features live jazz and acoustic music from the NoteWorthy Band, along with free mini-stress reduction sessions with Himalayan singing bowls, nutritional pet consultations, blood pressure screenings and BMI screenings.
The Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN), a local nonprofit that helps Long Island’s needy, is asking people to bring nonperishable food and cash donations to exchange for raffle tickets to win prizes.
