Drivers can expect overnight lane closures next week on Route 231/Deer Park Avenue near the Northern State Parkway.
Single lane closures will take place Monday through Friday nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for approximately three weeks.
These nighttime lane closures will allow the contractor to remove the center median and sign structures. Temporary traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Route 231 and the new exit ramp from eastbound Northern State Parkway. Traffic will also be shifted on Route 231 with a temporary barrier installed to allow for construction of the new entrance ramp from southbound Route 231 to eastbound Northern State Parkway. Portable variable message signs have been placed nearby with closure information.
This is part of the $15.7 million New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) project to improve traffic flow at the Northern State Parkway and Route 231 interchange.
When this night work is completed, drainage work will commence on Northern State Parkway requiring single lane nighttime closures for approximately two weeks. A future advisory will provide additional information regarding those closures.
Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, obey any speed restrictions that may be in place, and the instructions of the flag persons for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew.
Recently, NYSDOT and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. This year’s work zone safety campaign, “Flaggers have families too,” is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic – simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day.
