Part of West Shore Road to Close for Stabilization Work

Part of West Shore Road will close, starting April 12 for a shoreline stabilization project.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation work is expected to last about three weeks, and will close West Shore Road between Gold Star Battalion Beach and Landing Road.

Drivers are encouraged to use Southdown and Browns Road to avoid the area.

“Thank you for your patience while we perform this necessary work,”  Highway Superintendent Kevin S. Orelli said. “The Highway Department will close the roadway off to through traffic, but will open the roadway for first responders and local law enforcement.”

The Highway Department said it has also notified the Huntington School District, Huntington Coach (school bus company) the Suffolk County Police Department’s 2nd Precinct, the Huntington Fire Department and the Huntington Community First Aid Squad of the closure.
