Parts of Suffolk and Nassau Counties were designated as yellow zones Monday because of increases in coronavirus infections.
Yellow precautionary zones will be established in and around Great Neck and Massapequa Park, after recording sustained positivity, new case rates, and hospitalizations that meet the metrics for the designation. In Suffolk, Hampton Bays and Riverhead will be designated as precautionary yellow zones after meeting the positivity, new cases, and new hospitalization metrics for yellow zone designation.
Regions designated as yellow have the following restrictions:
-
- Schools remain open but must have weekly COVID-19 testing of 20 percent of students/teachers/staff
- Houses of worship operate at 50% capacity.
- Mass gatherings limited to 25 people indoors and outdoors.
- Businesses remain open.
- Restaurants can offer indoor and outdoor dining but must only have four people per table.
“We worked together, people were heroic, we went from 50 percent down to one percent,” Cuomo said. “We brought the rate down, but you know what? We can bring the rate up. You can bring the rate up a lot easier than you brought the rate down. If our actions change, the rate will change. If the actions change, the rate will change.”
Cuomo reported Monday that another 33 New Yorkers had died of Covid-19, including three Suffolk residents.
