Payless to Close All Stores

The discount shoe store chain Payless announced Friday that it will close all 2,100 stores in the United States, including sites in Commack and Huntington.

Paylesss will also shut down its online sales operations.

The discount shoe store chain  said that its stores will begin liquidation sales on Sunday and start closing doors in March through April. The chain declared bankruptcy in 2017 in an attempt to reorganize and reduce debt.

This will be the third business at the Big H center in Huntingotn to close in recent month. The Outback Steakhouse closed in August, though that area of the center is being rebuilt for retail; Kmart closed in January, with no announced tenant. Though Shoprite has been rumored as a replacement, the grocery store chain has declined on more than one occasion to confirm or deny plans to move in.

The move comes as retail shops are losing out to online sales. In addition, discount stores offering a mix of goods have become more popular around the country.
