Pedestrian Struck Near White Castle

Update 11:30 p.m. A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by a 2004 Honda CRV traveling north at approximately 5:15 p.m. Monday night in Melville.

The man was on Route 110, approximately 150 feet north of Amityville Road, when he appeared to step into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.

The man, who has yet to be identified by police, was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda faces no charges, police said.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

A passerby said the victim could be seen lying facedown at the entrance to the White Castle restaurant.
