Pet of the Week: Pit Bull Terrier Needs Your Help

October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month. This month is also when our featured dog was taken in by the League for Animal Protection of Huntington.

Meet Garrett

Adult, Male, Neutered, Red/Chestnut/Orange, Short Hair

The Teutonic meaning of his name is “spear strength.” Unfortunately, that is something Garrett has had to possess: This is not the first time he has been at the LAPH; due to neglect by his former owners, he had stayed there before.

But he may not be there for long. Though you will have to be strong, too, due to Garrett’s large size, and though he is recommended for houses with children ages 12 and above, with his ball-playing skills and knowledge of commands, he is a good catch. You might want to adopt him before the month is over, or someone else may take him home.

Being affectionate — he will command you to give him belly rubs — and since he has not mastered being walked with a leash, Garrett would do best in a family where he is the only pet. He deserves humans who can be as attentive as the shelter staff has been to him, and who are as loving as he still is.
