Suffolk Police arrested a man Sunday night who fled after crashing his car in Melville. The department said he had been shot in the arm.
Police gave this account:
Daquan Cannon was driving a 2011 BMW sedan east on the South Service Road, east of Broadhollow Road, when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree at approximately 8 p.m. Cannon fled on foot.
A Canine Section officer located Cannon a short distance away from the scene of the crash approximately 40 minutes later. When the officer found him, Cannon had a gunshot wound to his arm. A Melville Fire Department ambulance took him to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Second Squad Detectives charged Cannon, 31, Wyandanch, with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. He was also charged with an outstanding warrant. Cannon will be arraigned later.
