School board elections scheduled for May have been postponed until at least June 1 because of concerns about the Covid-19 epidemic. Proposed budgets for the next school year are also on the table. Newly elected board members and the new budget go into effect as of July 1 under normal circumstances.
Village elections, some already postponed once, are again delayed, the New York Conference of Mayors said Monday. The organization, however, said that the precise date in June has not yet been set.
“Any school board, library board, library board, or village election scheduled in April or May of 2020 is hereby postponed until June 1, 2020,” according to the executive order.”
The decisions to postpone the two votes follows numerous other cancellations or postponements, including the delay in the presidential primary.
