Power Outages Reported as Winds Whip Across Long Island

 

Updated 4:34 p.m. PSEG-LI reported a scattering of power outages Monday, including Huntington where hundreds were without power. South Huntington was especially hard hit, with more than 400 customers out as of mid-afternoon.

Power restoration was estimated for early Tuesday morning.

The utility said that heavy rain, strong winds and hazardous gusts continue in Nassau County, Suffolk County and the Rockaways causing downed trees, branches and wires affecting more than 16,600 of our 1.1 million customers since this morning.

 About reporting 5,793 of its approximately 1.1 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are currently without service.

The National Weather Service said that strong winds and heavy rain would continue until lat Monday night, with gale warnings posted off shore.  Some beach erosion and coastal flooding was also expected.
