PSEG-LI Says Some Repairs Could Stretch Until Monday

PSEG-LI said Friday night that most residents will have their power restored by Sunday night but some customers may have to wait until Monday.

The utility said the restoration of power was more complicated than it had expected.

Residents can continue to pick up ice and water at several locations, including  at 288 Pulaski Road,   Greenlawn, Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Town of Huntington said that all curbside yardwaste/private tree debris must be loaded by hand into garbage trucks and said that any sections of the trunk of a private tree must be split into pieces less than 6” in diameter and less than 4’ in length. Any debris larger than this requires heavy equipment that refuse trucks do not have; larger debris must be removed by the Highway Department.

PSEG-LI warned that downed wires should always be considered “live.”  and therefore dangerous. It advised residents to stay at least 30 feet away from downed power lines and immediately call 911 to report downed wires.

Anger about misinformation from utilities rose. One woman complained bitterly to a worker in a cellphone store about a promise to restore service made by another company but hadn’t been fulfilled. On social media, the main complaint seemed to be about unfulfilled promises, food that had to be thrown out because it had spoiled in homes without power and concerns about traveling  Huntington streets covered by trees and wires.
