Update: Rain, Wind Knock Out Power to Hundreds in Huntington

Update 9 p.m. : More than 600 Huntington customers lost power Christmas morning as strong winds and rain hit the area. By about 9 p.m. all but about 30 had had power restored, PSEG-LI said.

Huntington Bay and South Huntington were the most affected, with Huntington Bay hardest hit with 19 percent of residents out of power. Restoration of service in Huntington Bay is expected by 11 p.m.

PSEG-LI reported more than 8,000 customers on Long Island and the Rockaways without service as of 8 a.m.

The utility said before the storm that restoration could take longer than usual than usual because out-of-state workers were busy elsewhere as the widespread storm came up the Eastern Seaboard.

The National Weather Service said that the rain is expected to continue through the day.
