Recent Deaths in Huntington (April 4-April 16)

Retired teachers, business owners, secretaries, veterans, or stay-at-home moms; proud parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. These are some of the recent deaths reported by funeral homes in the Huntington area. Unless otherwise noted, services are private, though In many cases, families are planning memorial events once Covid-19 restrictions are limited. 

Mary Ann Dennis (April 16, 2020)

Age 83. bride of the late Joseph. Mother of Cyn Suga (Ray), Aileen Vaughan (Tony) and Timothy Dennis (Terri). Grandmother of Kristin, Kimberly, Joseph, Eamonn, Sara, Mariel, and Rebecca. Cherished Nana of Anya, Grant, Brooke, Dean and Claire. Sister of Maureen, predeceased by her siblings, Elizabeth, James and Patricia. Aunt to many nieces and nephews.  In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your local food pantry. Arrangements entrusted to M.A. Connell Funeral Home.

Patricia A. Drance (Feb. 9, 1960-April 5, 2020)

After a 5-year battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Oswego,  by her parents Stanley and Cleo Thomas, with her brothers, David and Robert, and sisters, Sandy and Cathy. While studying at SUNY Oswego, she met her husband, Michael Drance, in 1978. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology cum laude in 1982 and married Michael the following year in Oswego. Pat and Michael lived in Huntington, where they raised their two sons, Derek and Myles Drance. Pat worked as an insurance professional for nearly 40 years starting in a local insurance agency in Oswego and continuing her career in Huntington.   She was an active parishioner at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Centerport, for close to 30 years.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org and check the “Dedicate my Donation” box.

 

Angela D. Albini (Feb. 12, 1932-April 8, 2020)

Of Commack. She was born to Charles and Marianna Spadola in  in New York City.  Sister to Dorothy Record of Lake Worth, Fla. Mother to Diana (John), Deborah (Vincent), Ramon (Cindy), Michael (Phyllis) and Anne Marie (Rick). Grandmother to John, Cheryl, Robert, Paul, Tina, Joseph, Ashley, Dana and Michael and great-grandmother to John Morgan, Mary Beth, Cate, Alicia, Marissa, Sofia, Analisa, Vincent, RJ, Carly Rae and Peter. Paul Margarites (Oct. 8, 1935-April 4, 2020)

Paul is survived by his wife Margo, 4 children (Jim and daughter-in-law Nikki, Steven and daughter in law Dawn, Philip and Dina and son-in-law Greg) 6 grandchildren (Paul and wife Zoe, Chris, Maria, Athena and fiancé Rob, Zoe and Anastasia) and 1 great-granddaughter Celeste.Paul was a pioneer in the specialty food business for over 30 years. Dating back to the 1960s, Paul and his brother opened four Foods of All Nations gourmet stores  in the Walt Whitman Mall, Smith Haven Mall, and shopping centers in Eastchester and Manhasset. In the 1970’s they expanded locations and opened up the Gourmet Galley, a 2-store chain in Westport and Greenwich CT, introducing consumers to unique European specialties. After selling his business (1978) he went on to grow and develop the specialty cheese business at Long Island provision in Greenlawn. He later went to work for Daitch /Shopwell to design and launch The Food Emporium. Service: a private ceremony at St Paraskevi Greek Orthodox church in Greenlawn.

Antoinette Christiano (April 7, 2020)

She left her life as she lived it, with dignity and grace. She was the wife of the late John Christiano and the mother of Anne (Sanderson), James, and Lisa (McCann). She was the  mother-in-law of Stu, Janet and Ed, and the  grandmother of John, Jennifer, Matthew, Katie, Emily, Anna, and Joe. Interment-Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton.

Marilyn Ann Gray (1933-April 4, 2020)

She was born to Mary and Frank Russo on July 6, 1933 in Brooklyn and grew up in Whitestone. Marilyn married the love of her life, Bob, on May 2, 1959. After they arried, they moved to Long Island where they raised their family. They were happily married for 33 years. Family was the most important thing to Marilyn. Marilyn will always be remembered for her loving nature, her dedication to family, her kindness and her passion for life.  Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Bob. She is survived by her 3 children, Robert Gray (Pam), Janice Lindsey (Greg/deceased), Joanne Gray (Hayden) all who loved her very much. She was blessed with 5 grandchildren Marilyn had 3 sisters Phyllis Vuono, Rose Barnett (deceased), and Frances Russo (deceased).
 

Joseph Cocchiarelli  (Jan.28, 1927 – April 12, 2020)

Of Melville, Age 93. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie Cocchiarelli and loving father of Steven (Cheryl), Jeffrey, Joseph (Patty) and Lauren Cocchiarelli. He was the adored grandfather of Jennifer, Kristin and Ally. He served in  WW II. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Joseph Cocchiarelli  visit  the funeral home’s Sympathy Store.
 

Rita A. Welch (1923-April 10, 2020)

Of East Northport. Rita was preceded in death by her dear husband, George. She leaves behind her son Stephen, son Christopher and son Andrew his wife  Dawn and Rita’s grandchildren Matthew and Michael. Rita worked more than 30 years as a secretary at Northport High School.  Private wake and burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice House.

Michael S. Seigel (1948-April 16, 2020)

71 years of age. Loving husband of Denise (nee Benack) Seigel. Beloved father of Peter Seigel and Sarah Seigel. Grandfather of Oscar and Evan. Brother of Linda Pelino and her husband, Carmine and their children Bill and Steven. He was much loved by his sisters-in-law Suzanne, Claudia, Andrea and their families. He will be missed, but his sense of humor and spirit will always be remembered.

John Alfred Bistro (1928-April 16, 2020)

Of East Northport, age 91.Devoted husband of the late Agnes. Loving father of Diane Glavin and her husband Omer, Robert Bistro and his wife Maura, and Mark Bistro. Loving grandfather of Nick, Stephanie & Kristopher Glavin and John Bistro. Brother of Dorothy Sobonya. John will be buried with his wife at St. John’s cemetery, Middle Village, Queens. 

Anna C. Herr (1932-April 15, 2020)

Of Northport. Beloved wife of the late Max. Loving mother of Mark Herr, Katherine (Steve) Solomon and Debbie (Joe) Sciortino. 

Donald R. Corie  (1932-April 15, 2020)

Of Northport. Age 88. Husband of Joan Cassidy Corie. Beloved father of Stephen Corie, Beth (Sam) Struthers, Jennifer (Brian) Counselman and the late (2013) Margaret (Peter) Darby. Cherished grandfather of three. Donald was a teacher and guidance counselor at Northport High School from which he retired in 1989. All current services are entrusted to Nolan Funeral Home. 

Carol A. McManus (Aug. 19, 1944-April 13, 2020)

She lived her entire life in East Northport.. Carol worked as a teachers aide at Northport High School until her retirement in December 2017. Carol was predeceased by her beloved husband James V. McManus. She is survived by her son Patrick McManus, daughters Patricia Hawkins (John), Kelly Ryfkogel (Ron). She was blessed with 4 grandchildren Erin Hawkins, James Hawkins, Kyle McManus and Ryan McManus. She is also survived by her brothers Fred Wine (Diane), Robert Wine (Fran), Edward Wine (Bonnie), and James Wine (Janeen). Carol was blessed to have many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.. At this time a memorial visitation and celebration of Carol’s life is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2020 from 2-5 & 7-9 pm.

Margaret Boutin (May 21, 1933-April 6, 2020)

“Marge” or “Margie” to her many friends. She grew up with her brother John (“Jack”), and sisters Joan and Theresa (“Terry”).  After attending St Sebastions grammar school and Holy Cross Academy , Marge attended Marymount College in Manhattan, graduating in 1955.  While working as a medical secretary for several area hospitals, in particular St Vincents, she met Jim Boutin from Woodside. They married December 3 1966 and had two children, David and Ann-Marie.  In 1973 they moved to Northport.  After many years as a stay at home mom, Marge returned to work at Cold Spring Harbor High School.
