Recent Deaths Recorded in Huntington

These are some of the recent deaths reported by funeral homes in the Huntington area.
 
Michael F. Perrotta (Dec. 27, 1949 -April 22, 2020)
Age 70, Attorney and resident of Northport. Husband of Deborah (Kern) Perrotta Father to Melissa (Peter) Marinelli and Michael (Erin) Perrotta. Poppa to Julia, Kendall, Peyton, Ryan and Cameron Grace. Born in Brooklyn to Frank and Helen (Norton) Perrotta. Leaves behind brother Thomas Perrotta and sister Ann (John) Berkman. Predeceased by sister Kathleen (Richard) Segerdahl.  He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Vietnam Veterans of America.
 

John Paul Schwartz (Oct. 5, 1946-April 20, 2020)

Husband, father and “JP.” He was born Oct. 5, 1946 in the Bronx to Catherine and Charles Schwartz. He graduated from St. Helena’s High School in 1964 and from Manhattan College in 1969.  He married Jill Butler in 1970.  He is survived by wife, and children and their spouses – Jennifer Staub (Craig), Jim Schwartz (Kathy), Beth Foley (Bill) and Kristen Glick (Jed). His 9 grandchildren – Katherine, Brendan and Elizabeth Staub; Kaitlyn, Kiera and Megan Schwartz; Jane and Kate Foley; and Eli Glick;  his brothers, his twin, Jim (Ana) and Marty (Paula) and his sisters – Kathleen Knapp (Fred), Mary Ann Schwartz and Eileen Ferrara (Ralph) all survive him as do numerous nieces and nephews. 
 

John Sepanski (Aug. 6, 1933-April 15, 2020)

 86, died after a long illness at his home. The son of John Sepanski Sr. and Katherine Kowalski, he was born on August 6, 1933. He attended L.I.C.High School and Hunter College in New York City. He married his childhood sweetheart, Rosemarie Costa in 1953. They celebrated 66 years of marriage last August. John had a long career in sales of the new technology in communications. He was regional manager of New York for Xerox Business Services for 25 years before retiring in 1999. He completed four marathons in New York and on Long Island. He is survived by his spouse, Rosemarie, children Mark, Thomas, Maria, and Janine, sister Rose, as well as grandchildren Marie, Philip, Timothy, John Thomas, William, Ariane and Chloe. Services are limited to 10 members of the immediate family. A memorial service will be announced when restrictions are lifted.
 

Joan Agnes O’Beirne (Feb. 27, 1932-April 21, 2020)

She was born in Brooklyn, and grew up in East Williston. She developed a love of the ocean from early summers spent at Patchogue Shores. Joan met her sweetheart, James, at a community pool and they were married in 1953 at St. Aidan’s Church. They were married for 59 years. Joan was a lifelong resident of Huntington, moving to Oyster Bay Manor Assisted Living in 2016. She was very active as a church member. She worshipped at St. Hugh of Lincoln, St. Patricks’ Holy Name of Jesus, and later St. Dominic’s. She began her career in New York City, working for Levitt and Sons. She was a homemaker for her children’s early years and then worked many years as a legal secretary for Ralph Gentile Esq., and the firm of Goodwin, Shultz & Goodwin in Huntington Village.  Joan is predeceased by her husband James, brothers, Walter, Jr., Richard and her sister, Catherine. Joan leaves her children, James Jr., Joanne, Jeffry (wife Donna), Joseph (wife Karyn), and her cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Garrett, Monica, Paul and Joshua.

 

Lawrence D. Acritani (April 18, 2020)

Of Huntington, at age 71. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served honorably in the US Army, achieving the rank of sergeant, and will be laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 47 years, Patricia and his children, Robert (predeceased) and Kathryn (Brian) Guggenheim. He will also be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren Jack, Emma and Lily, his brothers and sisters, Patricia (Curt) Meinel, Steven (Arlene), Pasquale Jr., Linda (Stephen) Nielsen and John (Denise), numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. There will be a celebration of life sometime in the future. Memorial donations may be made to the A.L.S. Association.

 Margaret Mary Pausel (Nov. 6, 1937-April 21, 2020)

  82, of Huntington Station. She was a loving devoted wife of her late husband, Arnold L. Pausel, and beloved mother of Peggy (Coll), Lawrence, Laura (Treulich) and Matthew. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Daniel, Katherine, Jillian, Ethan, Amanda and Melissa, along with her 2 great-granddaughters Josephine and Luna.

Emma DeDora (April 19, 2020)

Age 91, a lifelong resident of Huntington.  One of 5 children. She was an avid golfer, tennis player and artist. Her paintings were displayed at local libraries. Married for over 60 years, she was predeceased by her  husband, Philip. She has 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Carol. 
 

Theresa (Terri) DeVaul  (July 8, 1947-April 18, 2020)

Age 72. Born in Brooklyn to Gerard and Elizabeth (Kubeldzis) Iovino. She was the eldest of eight children and grew up in East Meadow.
She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.  Terri is predeceased by her parents, a brother, and husband, Paul DeVaul; and survived by her children: Dawn, (Kevin Crowley), Jennifer (Frank Lapovicy), Wendy (Al Naborre), Theresa (David Christie), Paul (Sandee) and Robin, in addition to her 15 grandchildren and six siblings. 

 

Michael ‘Benny’ Benevento Jr. (April 19, 2020)

Age 42.  Son of Mike & Esther. Brother of Amy Nizza (Brian), and Jenny Mikkelson (Eric). Nephew of Alfred, Glenn & Ann Boasi and uncle of Angelina & Elio Nizza.  He graduated from the CIA in Hyde Park in 2003. He was a chef who worked at the Greenbriar in West Virginia and MidOcean Club in Bermuda, among other restaurants. 

 

Zdzislaw Ozimkowski (May 23, 1933 – April 20, 2020)

Born in Lublin, Poland, he eventually immigrated to the United States and settled in  Brooklyn  in the late 1950’s and married Helena Suchecki. Moving to Bethpage  in 1969, he and Helena raised their family on Long Island where he worked for Alarm Device Manufacturing Corp. (ADEMCO) in Syosset and later for C.U.N.Y-Queens College. He is survived by his sons Lester Edward Ozimkowski and Edward George Ozimkowski, daughter-in-law Kathleen Mallen-Ozimkowski and grandchildren Ryan Mallen Ozimkowski, Trevor Joseph Ozimkowski and Rose Helena Ozimkowski. After the death of his wife, in April 2008, he moved to Main Street, Northport. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Huntington Station.
