Recent Town Board Actions

The Huntington Town Board recently took the following actions:

  • Authorized the correction of code violations at nuisance properties across the town.
  • Approved funding for new navigation buoys with proper U.S. Coast guard markings and LED lights as appropriate to replace 20-year-old cracked and faded buoys to improve harbor navigation safety.
  • Greenlighted the Movies on the Lawn series.
  • Agreed to co-sponsor the LiveOnNY simply fit 5K Run Event at Harborfields High School on April 29 to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.
  • Accepted a $2,500 donation from Covanta Energy Corporation to support the 2018 Huntington Family Earth Day expo on April 21.
  • Waived charter fees for special events at the Dix Hills Ice Rink on Sunday, April 29 for NY Metro Blind Hockey.
  • Approved the installation of stop signs in East Northport at Carrington Drive eastbound at Dartmoor Drive, Dartmoor Drive northbound at Chester Street, and Fairlee Drive eastbound at Carrington Drive. 
  • Accepted a donation from the Melville Lions Club for a bench in Sweet Hollow Park in Melville to commemorate the club’s 100th year anniversary.
  • Enacted “no stopping” parking restrictions at Gerard Street and Stewart Avenue in Huntington.
  • Approved the appointment of deputy directors and directors for six Town departments: General Services (Andre Sorrentino, director); Public Safety (Peter Sammis, director; Joseph Rose, deputy director); Parks and Recreation (Greg Wagner, director; William Musto, deputy director); Environmental Waste Management (John Clark, director; Matthew Laux, deputy director; Information Technology (Nicholas Wieland, deputy director); and Maritime Services (Dominick Spada, deputy director).
  • Appropriated $230,000 from the Parks and Recreation Reserve Fund to help fund construction of the Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Spray Park at Elwood Park.
  • Approved continuing the long-time agreement with the Huntington YMCA to provide an instructional sailing and kayaking program at Centerport Beach.
  • Appointed Paul Ehrlich as a member an as vice chair of the Planning Board and Richard McGrath as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
  • Appointed assistant town attorney Brooke Lupinacci as the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program Liaison Officer and community development director Leah-Michelle Jefferson as the Equal Employment Opportunity Officer.
