Referendum Set Dec. 20 on Ambulance Squad Service Award

Huntington residents will vote Dec. 20 on a plan to increase the monthly service award to volunteers of the Huntington Community First Aid Squad.

The referendum proposes an increase to $30 a month from $20.

The total increase would be approximately $180,000 for the ambulance district but any increase would depend on the number of calls the HCFAS receives and whether insurance recoveries would be enough to cover costs, the town said.

At its Dec. 3 meeting, the Town Board appointed members to the Registration Board, appointed inspectors, and authorized an itemized budget for equipment and personnel for the vote.

Voting will be from noon to 9 p.m., at Huntington Town Hall, Room 114, 100 Main Street, Huntington.

Voters residing within the Huntington Community Ambulance District unable to vote in person on December 20 may vote by absentee ballot. An application for an absentee ballot must be received by the Town Clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or their agent.

Voters residing within the Huntington Community Ambulance District may pick up an absentee ballot application for the Referendum in the Town Clerk’s office or download an absentee ballot application at:  http://www.huntingtonny.gov/filestorage/13755/16479/HCAD_Absentee_Ballot_Application_2019_Final.pdf
