Remains of Doctor Recovered From Condo Collapse

The remains of a doctor from Dix Hills who was lost in the collapse of a condominium building in Florida have been recovered.

Dr. Gary Cohen, 58, who was visiting his brother, Dr. Brad Cohen, 51, was recovered from the rubble on Wednesday. The younger brother has not been found.

A total of 76 people are still unaccounted for; another 64 been confirmed dead in the June 24 collapse of the Champlain Towers South building in Surfside.

The elder Cohen was a psychiatrist at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

“We are working to bring him back to Birmingham,”  Rabbi Yossi Friedman of Chabad of Alabama, who was Gary Cohen’s rabbi, told AL.com. “The whole family’s in shock.”
