Report: Gunther Must Pay $20,000 on Sexual Harassment Claim

Former Huntington Highway Superintendent Pete Gunther has to pay $20,000 on a complaint of sexual harassment, the Northport Observer reported last week.

He is required to pay $10,000 to the woman who filed the complaint, and another $10,000 to the state Division of Human Rights. Both payments are due Tuesday, the Observer said.

Gunther took office in January 2014. The employee, Laurie Beth Austin, who filed the complaint,  worked for the Highway Department as a typist and said he harassed her by repeatedly trying to touch and kiss her and sending her gifts.  She filed the complaint in 2016.

Her complaint against the Town of Huntington was dismissed.
