Report: Lidl to Raise Starting Pay for Best Market Transfers

A trade magazine reported Friday that Lidl, the supermarket chain, is raising starting pay to $15 for workers moving over from the Best Market stores.

Winsight Grocery Business quoted Lidl spokesman Will Harwood as saying that Lidl had planned a starting wage of $14 per hour on Long Island, “but after further analysis, we believe that $15 per hour is the right starting wage for this area.” The current minimum wage on Long Island is $12 per hour.

Lidl said it will notify ex-Best Market workers for the new stores of the raise.

The chain bought the 27 Best Market stores last year. It has begun redesigning its stores, including the Huntington Station store.
