Report: Police Reviewing Handling of Lupinacci Crash

The Suffolk County Police Department is reviewing its handling of a car crash involving Huntington Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci, Newsday reported Friday.

The crash occurred about 12:45 a.m. Aug. 8 on West Hills Road near Chichester Road, with Lupinacci’s town-issued 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe striking a utiility pole, snapping it in half.

A town spokeswoman said Lupinacci, slightly injured and in shock, was unable to find his cellphone after the crash and decided to walk to his home, about a half mile away.

The town spokeswoman said Lupinacci encountered a passing motorist and asked them to report the accident. She said Lupinacci skidded on wet pavement before striking the Verizon pole. No citation was issued.

A town alert system said the accident was reported by a motorist who found the  vehicle crashed into the pole. It sustained $22,000 in damage, the town said, and was towed away by the town and then sent to an autobody shop for repair.

Newsday quoted the department as saying the department is reviewing “the incident and the police response. We are unable to comment further until the review has been completed.”
