Report: Tax Break for Downtown Hotel Expands

A hotel proposed for downtown Huntington would save an additional $1.2 million in property taxes over 15 years under a deal approved Thursday, Newsday said.

A tax break for the Hampton Inn & Suites proposed for downtown Huntington was expanded Thursday to $2.3 million, Newsday reported. The Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency granted the break to  Huntington Village Hotel Partners LLC, at the developer’s request, which cited difficulty in receiving loan approval for hotels and other tournism businesses during the coronavirus epidemic.

The increase gives the hotel a 48 percent break on its taxes, up from 33 percent.

The hotel will be built on the site of the Old Town Hall at the corner of Main Street and Stewart Avenue.
