Queens native George Anthony Devolder Santos plans to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi for the 3rd Congressional District seat.
Devolder Santos, a Republican, is a 2010 graduate of Baruch College, and works in finance, starting his career at Citigroup before moving to Metglobal, Goldman Sachs and currently, Linkbridge Investors.
Federal government spending, taxes and regulations, protecting Second Amendment rights, immigration are among his areas of concern.
“I’m not your typical Republican,” Devolder Santos says. He is 31 and running in his first campaign.
The 3rd stretches from Queens into Northwest Suffolk County along the North Shore, including Huntington.
The National Herald first reported his candidacy on Friday.

Suozzi is also facing challenges from other Democratic candidates, including Melanie D’Arrigo, Josh Sauberman, and Michael Weinstock, in the party primary on June 23.
