S. Huntington Schools to Go Remote for Week in January

South Huntington schools will switch to a full-remote schedule for a week in January, superintendent Dr. David Bennardo  said Thursday.

The Board of Education voted Wednesday night for the buildings to be closed Jan.4-Jan.8. Bennardo said the decision was based on an expected increase in precautionary, post-holiday Covid-19 tests that would necessitate more contact tracing.  “The thinking is that this extra week gives us additional time after the scheduled vacation for test results to arrive and data-driven decisions to follow,” he said.

Schools have often had to shift scheduling at the last minute as test results often arrive after-school hours, sometimes initiating a scramble for car pooling or child care at the last minute.

The buildings are expected to reopen Jan. 11.
