Salute to Coach Vin Altebrando Draws 150 LI Wrestlers

The inaugural Vin Altebrando wrestling fair drew 150 high school and middle school wrestlers Saturday night to Walt Whitman High School.

The outdoor festival attracted wrestlers from around Long Island, and was a salute to the popular Whitman varsity wrestling coach, who died in April of a rare autoimmune disease. He was 51.

The festival featured wrestlers, including a girl from Half Hollow Hills West, competing on five mats lined up on the football field. Members of the South Huntington school community donated food and other items, and commemorative shirts were on sale.
