School Notes: Tax Exemption Hearing, Traffic Safety Study

The South Huntington Board of Education has scheduled a public hearing Wednesday to adopt the 2006 Senior Citizen Tax Exemption  Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Silas Wood Sixth-Grade Center, 23 Harding Pl., Huntington Station.

The regular business meeting will immediately follow the public hearing.

Northport Traffic Safety Study

Northport-East Northport school superintendent Robert L. Banzer posted a letter on the district website telling parents that a traffic study is planned for  Laurel Hill Road, the site of an accident recently with a boy heading to cross country practice was  struck by a car and seriously injured.

Banzer said traffic would also be studied on Elwood Road.

“We discussed a number of concerns ranging from road design and infrastructure to the driving behaviors of some who frequent those roads. During the meeting, we agreed to a number of steps to help enhance traffic safety,” Banzer said.

Athletes Code of Conduct

Parents of  Cold Spring Harbor 7th and 8th graders are invited to a mandatory athletic code of conduct meeting Monday (Sept.24)  at 7 p.m. at the PAC.

Huntington Family Day 

Sunday Nov.11 is Huntington Family Day at the New York Jets game vs. the Buffalo Bills. Tickets are discounted and participants have access to special events. For more information, see the school district page.

Signing the Constitution

In honor of Constitution Day on Sept.  17, some students at James H. Boyd school in Elwood learned the preamble of the Constitution in American Sign Language. Students also learned other details such as who wrote the Constitution, why the document is important for our country’s government, and more.  Delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document on Sept. 17, 1787.
