Schools: Artwork Donated; AP Scholars Named

A work by Andaluz the Artist was donated this week to Huntington High School. The Huntington artist said, “In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month Danny Rivera of Huntington Assembly, Friends of Huntington Station Latin Quarter Xavier Palacios and I teamed up to create this painting for Huntington High School. This is dedicated to the large Latino community within Huntington, NY. We want to embrace the voices that sometimes go unheard.”

AP Scholars in Elwood

A total of 41 current Elwood-John H. Glenn High School students were named AP  Scholars for 2022 by the College Board. The Advanced Placement Program recognizes several different award levels for college-level student academic achievement on AP courses and exams.

Sixteen seniors – Jehanara Akhund, Juliet Beuka, Alejandra Cevahir, Matthew
Charlotin, ZiYun Chen, Sophia Crowley, Kevin Golden, Colby Knorr, Riya Kumar, Piper
Mascaros, Olivia Mascia, Grace Motta, Margaret Murphy, John O’Hara, Malav Shah and
Garrett Warren – and junior Maxwell Gazes were named AP Scholars, granted to students
who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

Four seniors – Giuliana Brown, Matthew Feldman, Benjamin Fuchs and Aelyn Rubin
– were named AP Scholars with Honor, granted to students who receive an average score of
at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these
exams.

Twenty-one seniors – Daniel Algerio, Nicholas Barragato, Cateyann Bernhard,
Thomas Cabrera, Angelina DeMarco, Evan Faraci, David Feldman, Joshua Haddad, Emily
Koumas, Emily LaMena, Alex Luyster, Andreanna Mancini, Daniella Mancini, Genaveva
Musgrove, Kyle O’Connor, Brittney Pham, James Rourke, Kayla Schwartz, Sabrina Siddiqui,
Nathaniel Tyll and Arianna Vouthas – were named AP Scholars with Distinction, granted to
students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3
or higher on five or more of the exams.

All-County Music Honors

Six Harborfields High School students were recently selected for the Suffolk County Music Educators Association’s All-County Jazz ensembles. They are: Jackson Ferrara (lead trombone, High School Instrumental Jazz), Peter Hoss (lead tenor saxophone, High School Instrumental Jazz), Kam Johansen (lead trumpet, High School Instrumental Jazz), Hartley
Semmes (trumpet, High School Instrumental Jazz), Ethan Rosenthal (drum set, High School Instrumental Jazz) and Maddie Woodward (soprano, Vocal Jazz).

Salute to Young Readers

Jefferson Primary honored its students who excelled during the summer with the elementary reading initiative.
