Schools: Miniature Town in Phys Ed; Harborfields Names Top Students

Students at Ocean Avenue Elementary School in Northport participated in an expanded cities unit of
physical education, which turned their gymnasium into a miniature town.

Complete with a “pet store,” “movie theater,” rope swing, “bank” and more, students used
scooters to travel around the town. For each lap around the track, students collected a
dollar which could be used to purchase tickets to each of the different activities or stores
around the town.

Students in all elementary grades participated in the unit, which runs for eight weeks.

Harborfields Names Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Harborfields High School has announced its  Class of 2022’s valedictorian and salutatorian.

Jacob Siegel was named valedictorian, and Christopher Qi, salutatorian. Siegel will attend Northwestern University; Qi is undecided about his college, but plans to become a physician.

Art on Display

Walt Whitman artists are featured in the High Arts Showcase XVIII at the Huntington Arts Council!
The exhibition is on display at the Main Street Gallery, 213 Main St. Huntington, as well as online at www.huntingtonarts.org through April 9.

 

Talking About Down Syndrome

John’s Crazy Socks cofounder John Cronin recently visited Kelly Lewis’ class at Washington Drive Primary School in the Harborfields school district as part of Down syndrome awareness. The students participated in dancing and listened to Cronin’s talk about his company and how it began.
