Schools: Northport Hiring; Boards Reorganize; Bus Contract

The Northport school district is seeking an assistant superintendent for assistant superintendent for special education and student support services.

The application deadline is July 22, with a start date listed as Aug. 10.

Administrative/supervisory experience required, along with teaching and/or mental health educational professional experience.

Candidates must use the Olas site to apply.

South Huntington Bus Contract

The South Huntington school district has contracted with Educational Transportation to replace Baumann & Sons, which laid off its drivers and went out of business in April as the Covid-19 epidemic swept across Long Island.

Superintendent David Bennardo said the district, which uses a mix of outside and district employees for transportation, would pay an extra $850,000 for services this year, “about 11% more than our previous contract with Baumann but several million dollars better than any other bid. The Educational Bus company representatives were an absolute pleasure to work with and we look forward to a long, healthy relationship.”

Elwood Board Elects Tomeo, Mammolito

The Elwood Board of Education elected James Tomeo as president and Heather Mammolito as vice president at its annual reorganization meeting Tuesday. 

Two new board members, Thomas Scarola and Sara Siddiqui, were sworn in by District Clerk Mary Lou Marx. Both were elected to the board by voters in June and will serve three-year terms.

Harborfields Board Picks 2 New Leaders

In Harborfields, the board elected  Suzie Lustig and Joseph Savalio  as president and vice president, respectively. Both were virtually sworn in by District Clerk Sharon Whelan on July 7.

Additionally, Maureen Raynor was promoted to assistant Maureen Raynor was promoted to assistant superintendent for human resources and instructional services.
