The Vin Altebrando Outdoor Wrestling Festival returns June 18 at Walt Whitman High School. The event will have a DJ, raffles, and food. Altebrando, the Whitman head wrestling coach, died in 2018. Photos.

Washington Drive Primary School in the Harborfields district put on its annual PTA-sponsored Parents as Reading Partners Play recently. Staff and parents work together in costume to perform a play to promote a love for learning.
“The thrill of seeing their teachers dressed as their favorite mixed-up storybook characters will be something our kids will always remember,” Principal Kathy McNally said.
Scholar-Athletes Honored
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Inc. (NYSPHSAA) has named its Spring 2022 scholar-athlete individuals and teams.
This is the 30th year the NYSPHSAA has conducted the Scholar-Athlete program.
A total of 568 schools across the state participated.
“The Association is proud to see over 41,000 student-athletes honored for their dedication to academics”, said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “The young men and women honored as Spring Scholar-Athletes have found the perfect balance of athletics and academics and we congratulate them on an outstanding job.”
