Schools: Robotics Fundraiser, Elwood Honors

The Huntington High School robotics team will hold a fundraising event on Wednesday, Nov. 17 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Halesite. Everyone is invited to attend.

Elwood Honors

Anson Kwan and Trinity Hausch have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Elwood-John H. Glenn class of 2022.

A National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist, Kwan also was named a NYSSMA All-State and SCMEA All-County musician. He serves as captain of Glenn’s cross-country, winter track and spring track teams, and is the alto soloist for the jazz band and a vocal percussionist for the Acapelawood acapella group. He plans to study chemistry in college.

“I am honored to have this recognition and I am really thankful for all the teachers, my parents and my family and friends who were able to help me get here,” Kwan said.

A National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student, Hausch is a member of the school’s National Art Honor Society and Science Research Club and won first place overall in the Feinstein Institute of Northwell Health’s Medical Marvels competition. She is interested in learning about life sciences and plans to study biophysics or biomedical engineering in college.

“I really do feel grateful, especially for my science teachers, because I wouldn’t have the passion I do for pursuing the sciences without teachers who actually care about their students and encourage their interests,” Hausch said. “I also am very thankful for my parents because they encourage me to work on my academics.”
