Schools: Salute to Future Service Members; Senior Walk

The South Huntington district recently honored seven students who will be joining the armed services. 

Terence Carduner and Jude Conway are joining the US Air Force. Matthew Jiminez Bonilla, Daniel Kramer, Kelvin Sanchez Torres, and Deshawn Small  are joining the US Marines. Nicholas Salas is joining the US Navy.

Suffolk County Legislator Thomas Donnelly, Assemblyman Steve Stern, Board of Education President Nicholas Ciappetta, Suffolk County Legislator Susan Berland, and Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci joined the celebration at the military recognition breakfast.

Bennardo Park

The South Huntington school board has created the Dr. David P. Bennardo Park next to the district office, in honor of the retiring school superintendent.  Bennardo is wrapping up nine years of service in the district and running for a Town Board seat.

PORT Graduation
Eleven Northport High School seniors enrolled in the district’s Program of Resilient Teens (PORT) have graduated in a special ceremony held this week. This was the first separate graduation ceremony in the five-year history of the program.

Elwood Honors

The Elwood  Board of Education recently recognized a member of the community and two members of the Board for their dedication to the community and the district’s staff and students.

Tiogo Magden, owner of Mozzarella’s Pizza in East Northport,  was honored for his longstanding support of district events and activities over many years. The board recognized two of its members, Dr. Sara Siddiqui and Deborah Weiss, as part of the New York State School Boards Association’s Recognition Program, in which board members display an outstanding commitment to completing NYSSBA training initiatives that enhance their knowledge and skills.

Members of the Harborfields High School Class of 2021 returned to Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School for the annual Senior Walk on June 14. Dressed in their caps and gowns, the seniors were greeted with signs and cheers from the elementary students. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rory Manning was also there to show support and celebrate the graduating class./District photo
