Schools: South Huntington Update; Child Care Plans for Medical Staff, First Responders

Dr. David Bennardo, superintendent of the South Huntington school district, addressed concerns Wednesday about the virus and its impact on the schools, parents, children and staff.

  • Chalkbeat is inviting suggestions on how to improve remote learning.
  • Half Hollow Hills has collaborated with SCOPE Education Services to provide childcare for school-age children of first responders and medical personnel who reside in the district. SCOPE Educational Services has established the emergency locations in Districts where they already hold a license to operate. Half Hollow Hills students are eligible to attend either the Commack or Deer Park location. The program staffed through SCOPE Education Services will be in the Sawmill Intermediate School, 103 New Hwy, Commack, or at the John F. Kennedy Intermediate School, 101 Lake Avenue, Deer Park.

  • The Huntington district has come up with a plan for n extended-day child care
    program hosted in district, in collaboration with SCOPE and Suffolk County. Priority will be given to the children of health care workers and first responders, as well as children already enrolled in SCOPE before- and after-care programs. The program is recreational and will be held at Jefferson Primary School starting this Friday  with various time options, contingent upon sufficient enrollment.  
  • La comunicación de esta noche es para informarle de la disponibilidad de un programa de cuidado infantil durante el día extendido alojado en el distrito, en colaboración con la agencia SCOPE y el condado de Suffolk. Se dará prioridad a los hijos de los trabajadores de los campos de salud y auxiliar, así como a los niños ya inscritos en los programas de SCOPE antes y después de horario escolar. El programa es recreativo y se llevará a cabo en la Escuela Primaria Jefferson a partir de este viernes  con varias opciones de horario y dependiendo si hay inscripción suficiente.  Se pueden dirigir consultas adicionales al personal de SCOPE al (631) 360-0800 como indicado.
