Schools: Welcome to New Staff, Balloon Parade Tradition

The Harborfields Central School District held its annual new and newly tenured staff reception, recognizing the addition of 22 educators and the accomplishments of 12 teachers receiving tenure.

“Now more than ever, our kids need us,” Superintendent Dr. Rory Manning said to the assembled staff. “When I look around the room, I see the professionals that are here to serve our kids, to treat them as if they were their own and to make sure all their needs are being addressed. It’s difficult right now, but we are doing so much work focused on the future, about what we are going to do to help kids when they need us the most.”

Along with administrators and  staff, in attendance were several members of the Harborfields  Board of Education, including President Suzie Lustig, Susan Broderick, Hansen Lee and Dr. Eve Meltzer-Krief.

Operation Christmas Child

World Language Honor Society students at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School students organized an Operation Christmas Child service project. The society members, along with students in American Sign Language and Spanish classes – donated 100 shoeboxes full of items to children in need around the world. Operation Christmas Child, a project of international relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, is to provide groups with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items and school supplies in time for the holidays.

They ship the gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.
