Northport sophomore Matthew Marlow, who was named the school’s first ever “Most Outstanding Wrestler” by Section XI for the Division I tournament. In addition to winning the 118lb. champion title, being selected as “Most Outstanding Wrestler” is a unique accomplishment that speaks to his overall performance throughout the season and sportsmanship on his team.
Recipients of the award are chosen by Suffolk varsity wrestling coaches.
As a sophomore, Matthew has two more years to continue honing his talents and perfecting his skills. He will head to the state tournament in Albany on Friday and Saturday.
Head coach Thad Aliberti said, “Our hope for Matt in the future is to have him continue to lead the program by example. Matt is consistently working to improve and challenge himself by seeking out the best competition in the country.”
Science Research Competition
St. Anthony’s High School senior, Amanda Ferrante has been named one of 12 science research students on Long Island to compete in the Finals of the 2022 Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at York College on Saturday.
Her paper, The Implications of DNA Barcoding and Modeling in Analyzing Similarities, Differences, and Potential Structural Mutations in Insect Genomes, will be presented with the other 11 selected papers
After the judging is complete, the top five students will compete for cash and scholarships at the National Finals of the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in Albuquerque, New Mexico from April 20 through April 23.
