Second Precinct News: Officers Assist With Birth, Make Auto Theft Arrest

Updated: Suffolk County Police Inspector William Scrima police reports on recent activities of Second Precinct officers. On Oct. 26, Police Officer Chris Ward #6065 responded to an active labor call at 8 Pomper Dr, Elwood. PO Ward and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps personnel, which included off-duty Second Precinct Police Officer James Garside, were able to facilitate the birth of the child at scene. Mother and newborn were transported to Huntington Hospital.
To commemorate the event, a stork decal will be placed on the ambulance (CVAC, 200 Burr Road, Commack).
Updated: On 11/07/20 at 11:36pm, a 911 caller stated that a Ring  video system at the Akebono restaurant at 252 Broadway in Greenlawn showed that a person had illegally entered the restaurant and was stealing items. Police Officer Brandon Rieber #6613 responded to the restaurant and observed a male flee through the rear door. Rieber was able to catch the male and place him in custody. He was charged with Burglary 3rd degree.
On Nov. 11, Police Officer John Martins #6966 located a wanted subject for third-degree grand larceny of an automobile in front of 15 Greenlawn Rd, Huntington. The arrest resulted in several other charges, including 2 counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance  (cocaine and heroin) and unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd degree.
