Services Set Friday for Huntington Couple

Memorial services are planned for Friday in Northport for a Huntington couple  who were active in the local boating community.

Susan Munro,  64, died Jan. 18; Douglas Borheck, 66, her husband of almost 30 years, died Sunday. They had been involved in a car accident the first week of January.

The couple became deeply involved in the boating community after moving to Huntington in 1993 from New York City. They owned several boats and became members of the Centerport Yacht Club, taking cruises around the Long Island Sound, the Connecticut shoreline, Block Island, Newport and Martha’s Vineyard.

She was a general manager for six Cardio Fitness Centers a subsidiary of Heinz Corporation. She was recruited by the American Heart Association where she worked for many years, becoming Senior National Account Manager, Director National Accounts and Regional Vice President Philanthropy and Foundations.  In September of 2014 until her death, she worked as AVP Constituency Programs for Northwell Health. She oversaw all constituency development activities including four large signature fundraising events, local community events, annual fund appeals and more.

She had recently completed a year as commodore of the club after many years of serving as an officer and participant in all phases of the club’s operation.

Douglas worked almost 30 years for AIG, moving up the ranks until he reached the level of Senior Vice President of Service Delivery and Transformation.  He retired from AIG 5 years ago.

The Nolan Funeral Home in Northport is handling services.  Viewing is scheduled for Friday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Mass is scheduled Saturday at 9:45 a.m.  at Our Lady of the Snows, 258-15 80th Ave., Floral Park.

In lieu of flowers; the family has requested family friends and colleagues consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
