A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for northwestern Suffolk County and elsewhere, the National Weather Service said Wednesday.
The storm is carrying 60 MPH winds and moving south from Connecticut, as of 3:17 pm.
Expected to be affected are
Islip, Brentwood, Levittown, Freeport, Commack, Huntington Station,
Centereach, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, Plainview, Medford, Massapequa, Hauppauge, Ronkonkoma and Syosset.
The National Weather Service said to expect damage to trees and power lines.
Hail is also expected, and a resident in Massapequa posted on Twitter that hail was striking his backyard.
