A Huntington man pleaded guilty Wednesday to sexually assaulting a teen in downtown Huntington in November.
District Attorney Timothy D. Sini announced that Daniel Adum, 19, pleaded guilty to Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, a B felony; Attempted Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, a C felony; two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a D felony; and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, an A misdemeanor.
“This kind of sexual attack on a stranger is extremely rare but even more so disturbing,” District Attorney Sini said. “Surveillance video was critically important to solving this case, along with excellent police work. The defendant is now facing significant time in prison for this heinous act where he will no longer be a threat to women or to the Huntington community.”
At approximately 1:10 a.m. on Nov. 11, Adum approached a teenage girl and her friend near the corner of Prospect Street and Main Street in Huntington while exposing himself. Adum punched the victim in the back of her head, knocking her to the ground, and then sexually assaulted her.
Suffolk County Police responded to the scene following a 911 call and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The attack was captured on surveillance cameras, as well as Adum later leaving the area in a white Honda Civic. Police were able to quickly identify and locate Adum and he was arrested on Nov. 12, 2018.
Adum is scheduled to be sentenced on July 2. He is expected to be sentenced to 15 years in prison with 20 years of post-release supervision on the top count.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shauna Kerr, of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau.
