South Huntington Cancels Summer Camps

The South Huntington school district announced Thursday that it canceling its Wildcat camps this summer, citing uncertainty bout operating rules because of the coronavirus epidemic.

“We know the hardship and disappointment this causes and really wanted nothing more than to find some camp structure that provided for both safety and student activity this summer, ” Dr. David Bennardo, superintendent, said. He said the district has turned all of its focus to figuring out school operations this summer.

“Our September planning is a bit challenging at this point because we have absolutely no idea what we will and will not be permitted to do,” he said.

Under review, as school districts await direction from the state, are full in-person classes, complete remote teaching and learning, and a hybrid of the two.
