South Huntington Reports 2 New Cases But Buildings Remain Open

Updated: While two siblings attending different South Huntington schools tested positive for Covid-19 Friday, the schools will operate normally on Monday.

Dr. David  Bennardo, district superintendent, said that the family had been vigilant and that the district had been able to perform contact tracing enough to satisfy health experts that there was no need to shut down either Walt Whitman or Maplewood schools, which the two students attend.

About 60 students and staff who may need to be quarantined are being contacted, Bennardo said Friday.

Countrywood Primary Center was shut down after a teacher was diagnosed. He was described as someone who had had contact with nearly every student in the building, making it difficult to narrow down who might have been exposed to the virus and selectively quarantine those individuals.

Other schools:

Otsego Elementary, in Half Hollow Hills, one case Friday. No further information available.

Commack: No reports available.
