South Huntington School District Alerted to Social Media Threat

South Huntington school district superintendent Dr. David Bennardo said Wednesday that a young man had issued a threat on Snap Chat that read, “You all gonna die,” but while the message was deemed inappropriate, it was not considered a credible health or safety issue.

Writing on the district’s Facebook page Wednesday night, Bennardo said administrators at Walt Whitman High School met with his family, who agreed to appropriate steps going forward. However, word about the message circulated on social media, Bennardo said, which led him to notify the Suffolk County Police Department. After interviewing the young man, Bennardo said, police concluded that no credible threat exists.

“However, you can rest assured that the individual in question will not be in school or anywhere near or around campus,’ Bennardo wrote.  “The police took this situation seriously and will be proceeding accordingly.”
