South Huntington Schools Name Teachers of the Year

South Huntington schools honored educators from each of its buildings at the Board of Education meeting this week.

Chosen Teacher of the Year for the district was Shaka Williams, for his dedication to students as a social worker at Silas Wood Sixth Grade Center. He commutes to the school each day from his home on Staten Island.

Each teacher was recognized and their contributions detailed by their building administrators in a festive and often emotional atmosphere as family, friends, students and colleagues cheered them for their accomplishments.

Recognized for their work were:

  • Countrywood: Jessica Farmer
  • Oakwood: Ivia Negron-Francais
  • Birchwood: Deanna App
  • Maplewood: Joseph Slovak
  • Stimson: Jennifer Schmelter
  • Walt Whitman High School: Crystalia Shepherd
