Southdown Market Suspends Shopping; Panera Offering Grocery Service

Southdown Marketplace suspended curbside and in-store shopping Wednesday but promised to return in a day or two.

In a notice posted on its website, the popular market said it would fulfill orders already placed but wouldn’t accept new ones at the moment. It cited the high volume of orders as a reason to suspend.

Meantime, Panera is offering a new grocery service, Long Island Business News reported, adding sales of such items as bread, milk and fresh produce to it menu.

Items can be ordered on the Panera app or website, with pickup by car, drivethrough, delivery or through Grubhub, reporter Adina Genn wrote. The service comes as officials are urging New Yorkers to stay home as the epidemic continues.

“From limited choices on grocery shelves to the growing need to limit the number of trips outside of the home, it is an incredibly stressful time when it comes to putting wholesome food on the table, and we knew Panera could help,” Niren Chaudhary, Panera’s CEO, said in a statement.
