St. Anthony’s Chinese Students Sending Masks Back to Friar Community

St. Anthony’s students from China who have returned home because of the Covid-19 epidemic have collected 10,000 sterilized, medical-grade masks and some protective clothing to send to the South Huntington high school for distribution.

The school has about 250 international full-time students; about 150 of that group are from China, said Alex Kissel, International Department chairperson at Saint Anthony’s.  He said that when the shipment arrives, he will deliver the equipment to international students still here in Long Island, living with their host families, and any St. Anthony’s family who wants them. The rest will be given to local hospitals, he said.

And school junior Lauren Avilla put together video clips of messages to the school’s international students who have either returned home or those unable to return home to their families right now.

“Our entire school is so touched by the compassion and generosity our students have shown during this pandemic.  It is humbling to know that they are thinking of our school community, and their classmates, from across the planet, Kissel said.
