St. Hugh’s to Host Meal Donations by 3 Restaurants

St. Hugh’s Church, partnering with the Harry Chapin Food Bank, will host a distribution of 4,000 meals to those in need on March 6.

Three Huntington restaurants–Prime, RaCha Thai Cuisine and Blind Bat Brewery Bistro–are contributing the full meals and soups.

Funding has been provided by the state Restaurant Resiliency Program, which granted $794,000 to Long Island Cares last October to purchase meals from qualified restaurants.

Long Island Cares has 24 restaurants participating in its program.  “We are excited about our distribution of freshly prepared meals on March 6th, and grateful to our restaurant partners that are preparing them to support our neighbors in Huntington Township,” said Paule Pachter, Long Island Cares’ CEO. “Many of our neighbors who struggle to put nutritious food on their family table often do not have the resources to visit a restaurant like Prime, RaCha or Blind Bat Brewery Bistro. Being able to pick up the 4,000 meals that Long Island Cares will be distributing will give them this opportunity.”

The state program, which began in October and will continue through March 31,  has provided 10 state food banks with $25 million to purchase and distribute restaurant meals at food pantries,
soup kitchens and shelters. Gov. Kathy Hochul launched the program to provide relief to restaurants
struggling through the pandemic.

Pachter is advocating for an extension of the program through the year.. “I’m hopeful that New York State will agree to extend the Restaurant Resiliency Program for another few months, since it has been so successful in providing prepared and delicious meals to so many families,” he said.

The distribution is set for 3 p.m.
