Sunday Station Cleanup Combines With Food, Book Drive

The rain-postponed Huntington Station cleanup is set for Sunday and it’s expanded to add a book and food drive.

The 10th annual cleanup begins at 10 a.m. with volunteers meeting at 1399 New York Ave., Huntington Station.

The Huntington Station Spring Cleanup is coordinated by: Huntington Station Happy Helpers, with help from Source the Station, Huntington Station Business Improvement District and The Original Guiseppe’s Pizza & Pasta Restaurant.

The two drives are part of the June 1 Hope Day, an effort to stock libraries and food pantries with needed items.

Residents wanting to help the books and food drive can bring their donations to the cleanup.

For Hope Day,  Helping Hand Rescue Mission has committed to giving away 750 bags of food. They are looking for these contributions:

Peanut Butter and Jelly
Pasta & Sauce
Rice or Rice Sides
Beans (dried or canned)
Macaroni & Cheese
Canned Green Vegetables
Canned Mixed Vegetables
Canned Fruit
Canned Corn
Pancake Mix & Syrup
Cereal
Shelf Stable Milk Products
Juice

For the book drive,
Friends of Huntington Station Latin QuarterPalacios Law Group and Gellerman Orthodontics are building mini libraries for each of the churches sponsoring Hope Day. They need books for all ages.

Hope Day in Huntington Station is being coordinated by Huntington Assembly of God church together with five other churches.
