Station Resident Is First Female Eagle Scout in Suffolk County

A Huntington Station resident is the first female to reach the rank of Eagle Scout in Suffolk County.

Summer Levinsky will be a member of country’s first inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts to be celebrated this month, the 111th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, the organization said Thursday.

Girls were first invited to join the Scouts, BSA program in 2019.

She is a freshman at SUNY Oneonta and did her project while at Walt Whitman High School. Her project involved replacing the dressing room counters, new larger mirrors, and updated lightsin the Dance Studio as well as painting the entire area  and adding motivational quotes. An active member of the theatrical department as a performer, dancer and choreographer, she knew that the dressing room needed updating.

As a little girl, Summer wanted to be a Scout like her older brothers, so much so that she would dress in their scout uniforms.  On her 14th birthday, she founded Venturing Crew 821 and became president.  In 2019, she founded Troop 218G (Girls) and was the first Senior Patrol Leader.  Her father, David states, “Summer has been working towards her Eagle for years, and yes, there was some sibling rivalry with her brother.”

Summer said her favorite quote in the dressing room is, “I’m Fabulous” which is part of the performer’s routine before each show.  Their beloved teacher would have all performers place their hand over their heart and repeat, “I’m fabulous.”

In addition to being an Eagle Scout, Summer is still actively involved in Scouting BSA as an Assistant Scoutmaster, providing support and guidance to the younger scouts.  She is proud of all of the training programs she has been a part of such as National Youth Leadership Training, Wood Badge, and Outdoor Ethics.
