Store Employee Charged in Death of Man Who Shoplifted

A store employee was charged Thursday with second-degree murder in the death of a man outside the store, Suffolk County Police said.

Police said the employee, Conroy Jaman, 29, of Hempstead, pursued Raquan Jackson for shoplifting items from the 7-Eleven store at 24-28 Broadhollow Road, Melville, and stabbed him in the chest with a box cutter. The confrontation occurred in a nearby parking lot at 1117 Walt Whitman Road.

Jackson, 31, of Melville, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Jarman, 29, of Hempstead, was charged with manslaughter 2nd degree. He will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
