Street Renaming Ceremony Set for Slain EMS Captain

Officials will rename part of Railroad Street  in a ceremony Wednesday in honor of  EMS Capt. Alison Russo-Elling.

Russo, 61, served with the Huntington Community First Aid Squad and the Fire Department of New York. She was killed in September in an unprovoked attack on a street near her firehouse in Queens. A man in the neighborhood has been charged with her murder.

Russo had been scheduled to retire from HCFAS in November.

The Town of Huntington, with members of HCFAS, will unveil a street sign with her name. Her father, Frank Fuoco, will speak, and HCFAS will make a presentation.

The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the HCFAS, 2 Railroad St., Huntington Station.

The Town Board voted to rename the street at a meeting in January.
